Christmas 2011

December 27, 2011

Here we are, it is time to celebrate!  The day has arrived that we celebrate the birth of the Christ Child that came to this earth 2011+ Years ago.  My wish for Christmas this year was that many people were able to celebrate with a changed perspective.  This time of year is about so much more than that which consumes us and creates so much stress.  There are so many different things to celebrate throughout our lives, but none more important than this, especially if we chose to believe in the King of Kings, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, our Father in Heaven.

If our perspective has been changed then we begin to live with new focus and the things of this world become less important while the desires of God become more important.  I had the great opportunity to take part in 5 Christmas services leading up to this day at Lutheran Church of Hope Ankeny, and each of them proved to be a space where our focus was able to shift if we allowed God to come into our hearts.  It is my hope that this was what others across the world were able to experience at their Christmas Eve services.  As for those of us who are planning to worship today, Christmas Day, that this too provides an opportunity for us to connect with God in a new way.  That this story brings us to a time and place where our lives begin to be shaped by the One who came to this earth to provide a living example of what it is like to be a son or daughter of God.

The celebration that has taken place this weekend and this time of year, can take on a whole new meaning if we open our hearts and minds to accept the real gift of Christmas.  This gift is greater than any other gift we will ever receive and it comes to us free.  What is the magnitude of this gift, let’s take a look at Romans 6:23 which reads, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”.  Now let’s talk about the best gift one can ever receive.  If we chose to live this life in a relationship with God, following the ways of Jesus Christ and allowing the Holy Spirit to empower us, we can experience a life full of blessing that leads to eternal celebration with God and all of His people.  The challenge, will this be the year you chose to Take God Seriously and in so celebrate the Real Gift, the Greatest Gift, His Son Jesus Christ?  And as this day passes, will you celebrate tomorrow and the next day, and each day thereafter?  We have a choice to make.  We can celebrate everyday of our lives if we chose to believe in God and appreciate the Gift He has given us, the Christ Child who was delivered long ago.  Cheers to Baby Jesus and to many more years of celebrating this eternal life with Our Father in Heaven!
